Shaw’s Tavern

Tucked into the trees of Southeast D.C., the Francis A. Gregory Library looks more like a modern glass pavilion than a typical library. Designed by award-winning architect David Adjaye, the building’s angular walls and floor-to-ceiling windows create a space that feels light, open, and connected to its wooded surroundings. Inside, you’ll find a welcoming community hub — shelves of books, cozy reading nooks, and programs for all ages — but it’s the bold, contemporary design that makes this library a landmark in its own right.
